Information Officer

1. Who our Information Officer is

Every business in South Africa must have an Information Officer. Ours is responsible for how The Big Data Showroom (Pty) Ltd handles personal information, and is the person to contact about anything in our Privacy & POPIA Notice or PAIA manual.

Registration with the Information Regulator

Under section 55(2) of POPIA an Information Officer may only take up their duties once registered with the Information Regulator. Ours is registered.

Registration can be verified by searching for the organisation on the Regulator's eServices Portal.

2. Deputy Information Officer

No Deputy Information Officer has been designated. All requests should go to the Information Officer at the details above.

3. What the Information Officer does

• encourages and monitors our compliance with POPIA;
• deals with requests made to us under PAIA;
• works with the Information Regulator on investigations;
• makes sure a personal information impact assessment is done where one is needed;
• keeps this manual and our privacy notice current; and
• makes sure our staff know what the law requires of them.

4. How to make a request

The two Acts have separate forms with overlapping numbers. PAIA Form 02 and POPIA Form 2 are different documents. Current versions of both sets are on the Information Regulator's website. If you are unsure which applies, write to us and we will point you to the right one.

We will verify your identity before releasing anything — that protection exists for you. A prescribed fee may apply to copies of records, and we will tell you what is due before we process the request.

5. If you are not satisfied

You can complain to the Information Regulator at any time. You do not have to come to us first, though we would rather have the chance to put it right.
